Realized by AUT Researchers: Smart Drug Delivery for Cancer Treatment Using a Barberry Extract Medicine

 | Post date: 2020/07/11 |
Researchers of Biomedical Engineering department of Amirkabir University of Technology are about to implement targeted smart drug delivery for cancer treatment using nano-technology and a natural medicine extracted from barberry.
Mahshid Givarian, MSc graduate of Biomedical Engineering department of Amirkabir University of Technology explained her project for “synthesis and characterization of ultrasound-sensitive nanoparticles with shell core structure for controlled drug delivery” and said: this project is the continuation a PhD study on smart drug delivery for cancer treatment.
This AUT graduate pointed out the study and its results and said: this is a destructible bio-system that is highly sensitive to ultrasound waves, and can approach and affect the targeted cells by the help of ultrasound waves due to its nanometric size. After finishing animal tests with acceptable results, the system is being commercialized and shall be made available shortly. We hope to provide more effective cancer treatment with fewer side-effects with this system.
