Fabrication of Multilayer Nanofiber Membranes Using Plant Extracts and Seashells

Researchers at Amirkabir University of Technology have succeeded in modifying the biocompatible polymer of chitosan with the help of plant extracts to create multilayer membranes that can be used to prevent adhesions in surgery and at the same time, become fixed on the wound site without the need for sutures due to the presence of a layer of bioadhesive inspired by oysters (biped).

Production of New Generation Solvents Used in Oil, Gas, and Petrochemical Industries

Researchers at the Chemical Engineering department of the Amirkabir University of Technology have introduced a solvent used for conventional separation in oil and petrochemical industries using natural ingredients that are cost-effective for the industry. Hamed Sedaghatzadegan Esfahani, an Amirkabir University of Technology graduate with a master’s in chemical engineering (a sub-discipline of separation processes at the Amirkabir University of Technology) and the project manager, stated that “This research sought to achieve a new solvent as a replacement for the dangerous organic solvents prevalent in the industry and use it to separate aliphatic from aromatic substances”.

According to the public relations of the Amirkabir University of Technology, Dr. Mehran Javanbakht, a faculty member at the Amirkabir University of Technology and the head of Renewable Energy Research Center stated that “Kimiagar Mehr knowledge-based company has conducted extensive research on the raw materials used in lithium batteries in collaboration with Amirkabir University, among which one could mention the production of battery grades of lithium chloride, aluminum sulfate, lithium sulfate, nickel (II) sulfate, nickel (II) chloride, Manganese (II) sulfate, cobalt (II) sulfate, and sodium dihydrogen phosphate.

Farhad Keyvanimehr, a graduate of the Mahshahr branch of The Amirkabir University of Technology, and the manager of the “Modifying the Hydrogen Purification Process Using the Mixture of Metal Oxides” project, said, “in refinery and petrochemical industries, a process called “Hydrogen Purification” is applied to separate impurities from petroleum and the related products.”
